How to choose your UAE e-invoicing ASP: 12 questions before you sign

In short: your Accredited Service Provider is the channel every invoice your business issues will pass through — and switching later is a project in itself. More than 30 providers are accredited; they differ most in integration depth, failure handling and pricing shape. These 12 questions separate them in one meeting.

The UAE’s e-invoicing model is a five-corner Peppol network: your system, your ASP, your counterparty’s ASP, their system, and the Federal Tax Authority receiving the data. The ASP is corner two — the one you appoint, pay, and depend on. Accreditation (under Ministerial Decision 168 of 2026, which replaced Ministerial Decision 64 of 2025 on 1 October 2026) guarantees a floor: certified to operate, Peppol-capable, meeting the FTA’s requirements. It does not make providers interchangeable. Here is what does the separating.

Integration — where projects actually fail

1. How do you connect to our ERP — a maintained connector, an API we build against, or file drops?

A named, versioned connector for your exact ERP version beats “we have an API” by months of work. File-based integration is a red flag for volume.

2. Who owns field mapping and PINT AE validation — you or us?

Invoices must conform to the PINT AE format (UBL 2.1). Some ASPs validate only; the mapping from your ERP’s fields is your problem. Know which side of that line your quote sits on.

3. What happens to an invoice that fails validation?

The answer you want: a queue you can see, a reason code you can act on, and a correction path that doesn’t require a support ticket. The answer you’ll often get: “it’s rejected.”

4. Can we run a full test cycle against your sandbox before go-live — with our real document types?

Credit notes, discounts, multi-currency, VAT edge cases. If the sandbox only handles the happy path, so will go-live.

Operations — the years after go-live

5. What is your uptime commitment, and what happened in your last outage?

A provider who can’t name their last incident either hasn’t had one (young) or doesn’t track them (worse).

6. If you lose accreditation or exit the market, what is the migration path?

This is the question nobody asks. The accreditation list is young, and consolidation is likely. Your data, your archive, your continuity — in the contract, not in goodwill.

7. Where is our invoice data stored, and who can access it?

Data residency matters to your own compliance posture, not just the FTA’s.

8. What does your archive give us — retrieval by our reference numbers, or a data dump?

You will need five-year retrieval the week an auditor asks.

Commercials — where quotes diverge

9. What exactly is a billable document?

Per invoice? Per transmission attempt? Do credit notes, rejections and resubmissions count? Two quotes that look identical can differ 40% on this definition alone.

10. What is in the implementation fee — and what triggers change requests?

Fixed scope in writing, or an hourly meter. You want the first.

11. What do volume tiers look like at 3× our current volume?

The mandate covers your growth, not your snapshot.

12. Who do we call when an invoice a customer is waiting on won’t clear — and what is their response commitment?

Support SLAs for a compliance channel are operational SLAs. “Email support, 48 hours” means your collections wait 48 hours.

The order to decide in

Shortlist on integration (questions 1–4), stress-test on operations (5–8), negotiate on commercials (9–12) — in that order. A cheap ASP with shallow ERP integration is the most expensive option on this list; the integration is where the real cost lives, whoever you appoint.

That integration — mapping, validation, testing, cutover — is the work SHORIQ does. We are not an ASP and don’t resell one: we sit on your side of the table, make your systems produce clean PINT AE documents, and take you through appointment to first cleared invoice. If the deadline pressure is on, start with the E-Invoicing Readiness Score — it tells you in days where your gaps are. Dates for every wave are on the deadlines page; the wider picture is in our guide to the UAE e-invoicing mandate.

FAQ

Do we need an ASP if our accounting software “supports UAE e-invoicing”?

Yes. Software capability and the appointed, accredited channel are different things — invoices reach the FTA only through an Accredited Service Provider. What your software’s support changes is how hard the integration is, not whether you appoint one.

Can we change ASP after go-live?

Yes, but it is a migration project — re-integration, re-testing and archive continuity. Choosing carefully once is substantially cheaper than switching, which is why integration depth should outweigh headline price.
